American crayfish: from problem to opportunity?

The American crayfish continues to cause great concern in South Holland. Provincial States have now sent a fire letter to State Secretary Rummenie to finally speed up a national approach. The crayfish cause serious damage to flood defenses, biodiversity and water quality. Every season, the problem gets bigger – and a solution remains elusive.

At CrawFish Farm Holland we follow these developments closely. Where the (national) government is still struggling with an effective approach, we see opportunities for a sustainable and tasty solution. Because: if you can’t eradicate it, maybe you’d better… eat it.

Crayfish are not only a threat to nature, but also a delicious delicacy. By catching and consuming crayfish wild in a sustainable manner, we can contribute to reducing the population and increasing awareness of this problem.

We advocate more cooperation between government, breeders, catering and consumers. Give the lobster economic value, and make combat part of the food chain. It is unique in itself that such a protein high quality product is available in abundance in our natural environment, let’s take advantage of this (hopefully temporary) opportunity!

Stay up to date with the latest news through our blog, or order live crayfish directly from us – sustainably and wild caught and delivered fresh. This way you not only taste top quality, but also help nature a hand.
