🌿 Will you help bring nature back into balance?

Are you an outdoorsman at heart? Can you see yourself driving through the polder early in the morning, checking your traps while the birds sing to you? Would you like to contribute to the reduction of the American crayfish and work with your hands in nature?

Then this is your chance to make your hobby your job.

We at CrawFish Farm Holland are looking for a part-time crayfish fisherman (1 to 1.5 days per week) who wants to fish independently for crayfish in the Woerden/Zegveld area.

🦞 What will you do
You fish with adapted traps and pots in licensed fishing waters. You determine your own strategy, liaise with water managers and manage your traps according to the season. In the closed season (September-December) you switch to pots and maintain your equipment.

🌱 What do you get from us?

  • An education in crayfish fishing
  • Fixed purchase and fair price for your catch
  • Guidance on permits and contacts
  • Wading suit, starter set of traps and pots, repair kit
  • Access to a warm network of fellow anglers

🚗 What do we ask of you?

  • 1 to 1.5 days per week availability (winter: 1x every 2 weeks)
  • Own transportation for your caught crayfish
  • Willingness to purchase additional traps on their own at a later date

🌤️ What does your day look like?
Your day starts early, just like nature. You spread your sandwiches, prepare a thermos jug of coffee and put on your wading suit. As the sun rises, you drive through the Dutch polders towards your trapping area in the Woerden/Zegveld region. The meadows are still steaming, all kinds of birds fly up, and the water lies still, waiting.

On location, you park your car and begin your rounds. You walk past your traps and pots, check your catch, empty the traps into bins, and inspect your equipment. Sometimes it’s hard work and pounds of banging, sometimes it’s calming. You feel at one with the environment: water, reeds, birds and silence.

You eat your lunch sitting on a fence or on the grass, looking out over the meadow. You might see a kingfisher flash by, or a heron looking at you curiously. Along the way, you chat with a farmer you now know. You coordinate with him where to place your traps next week. Good contact is important – and often just plain fun.

At the end of the day you drive to our production location in Moordrecht. There you rinse your catch, sort the crayfish, exchange experiences with fellow fishermen and get tips on new hotspots or clever tricks. Together you work towards the same goal.

Then you drive home. You are tired, but fulfilled. You have contributed to the restoration of our natural environment, worked healthily outdoors, AND followed your passion.
